Galloway Forest Park, Glenkens and Dumfries and Galloway

This magnificent region of Scotland is one of the most beautiful, most interesting and most exciting areas you could ever wish to visit. As well as the natural attractions, there is so much to see and to do.

The nearby Loch Ken was the home of the famous Kenmure Pike which was caught on the nearby Loch Ken and weighed a remarkable 72 pounds! This is a major course fishing loch and is on our doorstep, but there are a host of lochs and rivers within a few miles that provide excellent fishing for salmon and trout. If you require further details, then please drop us an email or give us a call with your requirements.

There are 18-hole golf courses in abundance with most within a one hour's drive, but a particular favourite is the local 9-hole New Galloway Golf Gourse that is one of the most scenic in the country. details of all these courses are available from the hotel on request.

Birdwatching is also a very popular pastime in the area, with the Red Kite Trail going virtually past our door.

The Galloway Forest Park is a magnificent area of immense beauty and is a major Scottish Visitor Attraction in its own right with its rugged hills and deep glens, forest, rivers, lochs and abundance of wildlife. Within it are beautiful walks, a Forest Drive, the Clatteringshaws Visitor Centre, the Red Deer Range, the wild mountain goats, Clatteringshaws Loch, Loch Ken... and much, much more.

Sporting activities include a sailing centre, water ski centre, mountain biking and a multitude of walks. Indeed we are only minutes away from the Coast to Coast Walk, the Southern Upland Way which your host, Patrick, knows very well as he helped to improve the path over 20 years, working from Portpatrick to Wanlochhead. He will be more than pleased to help you with your route planning.

But there is more for you to explore and experience if you wish to travel a little further .For example, you could take a day trip to Loch Lomond... or a day trip to Ireland.

But there is so much to see and do on the doorstep. There is an old castle on the outskirts of the village with many more things to see and do within a short drive such as a wealth of gardens and castles.... the nearest only 15 minutes drive away. Many are in the care of the National Trust or Historic Scotland, but there are others that are also open to the public that are in private ownership.

There is so much to see and to do, so why not give us a call and we will help you plan a holiday to remember!
